Bastazo's Origin Story
You might be wondering about our name. Bastazo comes from a Greek term (bastazó) meaning "to carry the burden," which perfectly reflects our mission. Our customers shoulder the critical responsibility of safeguarding the systems that keep our world running—from power and water to manufacturing. We’re here to help carry that burden alongside them.
Founded in 2020 by Phillip Huff and three University of Arkansas faculty members, Bastazo was born from licensed technology developed at the U.S. Department of Energy's Secure, Evolvable Energy Delivery Systems (SEEDS) cybersecurity center at the University of Arkansas. In 2023, we launched our first commercial product, and by 2025, we raised our first round of venture capital to accelerate growth.
